The Viceroy

The Viceroy sits at the corner of East Delano Avenue and 91st Street in Monarch City, Monarch County, in the Commonwealth of New Albinian. It began life as a hotel situated not three miles from the Monarch City Airport in the northeastern “Eastside” wing. As tourism drifted to be more concentrated in central and “Westside” Monarch City, it was converted into a studio apartment complex. It has only one interior corridor to access the leasing office, an ice machine, mailboxes, and the elevator. All apartments are arranged around rectangular, open balcony-style corridors. In a flagrant disregard to city code, the windows don’t open and there is no fire escape.

Flannery Finnegan moved into the Viceroy after her boyfriend, Justin Blakemore, broke up with her. She chose it because it was the cheapest available apartment in town and was as far from both Justin and her parents as it was possible to move without leaving the city. A running joke among Flannery’s friends is that the walls of the Viceroy are so thin the tenants next door bless you when you sneeze.
