Compass Point

Compass Point is the name of the hill and lighthouse on the far reaches of the township of Stars Atlas. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 2012. In 2013, the Commonwealth of New Albinian decides to sell the property. Siobhan Flannery, who has sentimental attachment to the lighthouse and is afraid a developer will tear it down and build a vacation home, convinces the township to purchase it and turn it into a museum. There has been a crumbling white picket fence around the top of the cliff behind the lighthouse since the 1940s.

At the base of the hill is the house where the lightkeeper traditionally lived. Despite being smaller than some other houses, notably the Flannery house, the house at Compass Point is often perceived as one of the larger houses in town. This is because of its ranch-style layout, elongated front porch, and 2-car garage, as well as the imposing lighthouse on the hill behind it. Compass Point is one of the oldest houses still standing in Stars Atlas, but very little of it is original. In fact, much of it is stuck in the 1970s, which is the last time it was updated with more than a coat of paint.

The house at Compass Point is owned by Elvis and Faydette Ganz. When Elvis retired, they moved to town to be closer to Faydette’s flower shop. Carter DuBose currently rents it from them and has considered buying it.
