Shattering Halos by Sunniva Dee

I’m very excited to announce that today is the release day for SHATTERING HALOS! The author, Sunniva Dee, was the first person (besides my mother) to read THE BUSINESS OF DEATH, and I’m thrilled to be able to say I knew her when she was working on this book.

Gaia’s life is saved by her guardian angel Gabriel when he should have let her die, and the two fall into a Heaven-defying love affair. Unfortunately, in the process they fulfill a prophecy that has all of Hell rejoicing. Who will win, and will their love survive?

This novel has interesting side characters, both celestial and mortal, which you don’t always see in the steamier romance novels. The prose is very poetic — almost lyrical — which is something I enjoy quite a lot in the things I read. You can also tell she went through a lot of trouble to make sure her other-worldly bits remained consistent, which as both a reader and a writer I really appreciate. And most importantly, THE MAIN CHARACTER IS NOT A MARY SUE. Yes everyone loves her. Yes she is everything the FMC of a romance novel should be. But she’s also spunky and not afraid to stand up for herself and those she loves in the face of Hell. She has real depth of emotion, genuine reactions to the things happening around her, and she makes herself part of the action instead of just letting everything happen to/around her.

Overall, this novel is not your run-of-the-mill angel story. It has depth of characterization, enough action to keep the pages turning, enough romance to satisfy, and a great ending. If you have any interest in paranormal romance, you should definitely check SHATTERING HALOS out!
